Missouri K-9 Search and
Rescue, Inc. is a volunteer, not-for-profit corporation, duly
organized under the laws of Missouri and provides its services
at no cost to the public. Our only source of funding comes from
donations and fundraisers. Some of our members have been working
with search and rescue for as long as 10 years.
All members of our unit,
both handlers and dogs must undergo extensive training. The handlers
are trained in visual tracking, compass, topographical map reading
and are CPR trained. The dogs are obedience trained, and are
trained to track based on either human scent discrimination or
air scenting. They are also worked on various agility exercises
to enable them to work in any terrain and overcome any obstacle
encountered during a search. In addition, various members of
our unit have a medical and or extensive military background
and our training director for the dogs is a certified master
trainer for canines., having worked with law enforcement departments
in Missouri in the training of their K-9 units.
We offer our search and
rescue service to any community, but only upon an official request.
Once officially activated we would report to the location specified
by the law enforcement or public safety agency in charge of the
incident command system. Our unit would work under the direction
of , and together with, the agency in charge of the search in
an wholly cooperative effort to locate the missing person.
